APS6 Senior Data Scientist

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist (APS6 level) to join a high-performing analytics and data team within a large federal government environment.
This is a technically focused role offering autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to apply advanced data science and AI techniques to complex, real-world challenges. You will work across multidisciplinary teams to deliver impactful analytical solutions that support strategic programs and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and implement innovative data science, AI and statistical techniques to address complex business challenges
- Design and develop statistical, mathematical and machine learning models
- Deliver advanced analytics solutions to support strategic initiatives and new product development
- Undertake ad hoc modelling and analytical requests to support executive priorities
- Collaborate across teams and build strong stakeholder relationships
- Present insights and technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Contribute to program planning, project management and policy development where required
About You
- Minimum 4+ years’ experience as a Data Scientist in public or private sector environments
- Strong Python or R programming skills, including data manipulation, modelling and deployment
- Demonstrated experience applying AI and advanced data science techniques
- Proficiency in SQL and working with databases or cloud storage (e.g. AWS S3)
- Exposure to Large Language Models, Generative AI and their practical applications
- Understanding of AI assurance, governance and ethical AI frameworks
- Experience engaging and managing complex internal or external stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
