Interview Tips

It is always good to treat any meeting with a prospective employer seriously whether it is a formal interview or a casual coffee catch-up as the first impression are important. It’s an opportunity for the prospective employer to find out about you and why you are the right person for the job and it is important for you to find out more about the opportunity and assess if it is actually right for you.

Preparation, preparation, and preparation

The more prepared you are, the greater your confidence and the better you will present yourself.

  • First Impressions do count! Make sure you look smart and give them a firm hand-shake and a smile.
  • Make sure you have the details of location, time, and who you will be meeting with…etc.
  • Do some homework about the organization, the position & the people you will be meeting
  • Prepare examples to illustrate your capabilities (Behavioral & technical questions)
  • Speak clearly and confidently about yourself. Practicing your answers aloud can be quite helpful!
  • Listen carefully to the questions & take a moment to think before you answer
  • It can be easy to find yourself talking too much but also feeling that you need to continue to the end of every example – it is very acceptable to check in with the interviewer to see if they would like more or less detail on a topic
  • Prepare a few questions to ask (i.e. team culture, team structure, work, expectation…etc.)
  • Maintain eye contact
  • Relax & be you!
